Forest School/Outdoor learning
In the first term of Year 1, in order to ease the transition from child-led learning in the Early Years to the more formal teaching in Year 1, the children enjoy an afternoon a week of Outdoor Learning. Some of these sessions are Forest School sessions, led by a qualified Forest Schools practitioner, while others take place in part of the Early Years outside area.
During the Forest School session, children learn new skills, such as whittling, as well as having the opportunity to play imaginatively in our mini woodland area. They also enjoy a campfire, where they can cook popcorn and marshmallows.
During the other outdoor sessions, the children focus their play on developing a PSHE objective, such as sharing, taking turns, being polite and playing fairly.
